Therapies

At Pathways To Health we utilize a variety of therapies, including oxygen therapies, brain-based therapies, neuro-metabolic therapies, and also the K-Laser, depending on one’s unique metabolic needs and nutritional goals.

HRV

90% of anxiety and depression cases are related to poor breathing and oxygen management. When you feel anxious, one of the key things you’re experiencing is a wind up in the limbic center (key region for primal emotions, rage, etc.) of the brain, which slows the frontal lobe (key region of focus, reason, & mood control), inhibiting your ability to self-soothe and make good judgments. This stops you from being able to take deep breaths and causes you to hyperventilate. Doing a Heart Rate Variability study helps our patients to identify their unique breathing and heart rate, and teaches them how to modify and manage their oxygen delivery. This process allows them to literally breathe their way out of stressful situations, and helps to increase O2 tissue perfusion which feeds and stimulates the brain! This therapy can be effective in helping individuals with conditions such as elevated stress, depression, anxiety, hypertension, insomnia, and anger control. This science came largely out of the field of Cardiology and has been used for decades for blood pressure and heart arrhythmias as well.

K-Laser

The word “LASER” is an acronym for Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation. Laser Therapy or “photobiomodulation”, is the use of specific wavelengths of light (red and near infrared) to create therapeutic effects. These effects include improved healing time, pain reduction, increased circulation and decreased swelling. The type of laser that we use is called a K Laser, and is an FDA approved Class IV laser. Early Class III therapeutic lasers are effective, but literally thousands of times less powerful than the new technology available today. Class III lasers are capable of penetration of only a few millimeters, while Class IV lasers can penetrate over 4 inches into the deep musculoskeletal tissue. The type of laser that we use has been researched in European countries for several years, and it has been discovered that specific wattage and modulation are now used for specific conditions, never before available until now. The perfect blend of chiropractic and laser therapy produces phenomenal results in extremely short periods of time. The number of treatments required depends on the nature of the problem and the length of time the patient has been affected by it. Some problems are resolved with as little as one treatment. Chronic and/or deep-seated conditions may take as many as 10 treatments but most patients find relief much sooner. There are no known side effects from laser therapy.

Neurofeedback

For a brain to both maintain health and/or rebuild, it needs to be given a job to tie nerurons together. This helps to both maintain the networks we already have and to build new ones.  Neurofeedback monitors brain waves, looks for irregularities, then produces a signal that is designed to correct and guide the brainwave back into a healthy pattern. With repetition of this process over time, the brain will earn to stay in healthy ranges. The result is an improvement in brain regulation, which in turn can reduce or eliminate most neurological symptoms. To establish a plan of care, one would come and get a QEEG which is essentially a map of the brain – it shows which neurons are firing and communicating, as well as the frequencies that each area of the brain is running in. From there, specific exercises and training protocols will be implemented to work on strengthening and re- wiring areas of the brain that show to be in need. The symptoms below have been shown to be clinically responsive to Neurofeedback:

ADD / ADHD | ANXIETY | AUTISM | BIPOLAR DISORDER | DEPRESSION | CHRONIC FATIGUE | CHRONIC PAIN | EPILEPSY | HEAD INJURIES | FIBROMYALGIA | INSOMNIA | MEMORY LOSS | MIGRAINES | OBSESSIVE | COMPULSIVE (OCD) | POST TRAUMATIC STRESS DISORDER (PTSD) | SLEEP DISORDERS | SUBSTANCE ABUSE

Vasper (Vascular Perfusion) + Live O2

We are always looking for ways to optimize oxygenation and mitochondrial function, and the blending of two cutting edge technologies – the Vasper and Live O2 – has opened an amazing door into mitochondrial oxidative enhancement! Exercising under cold compression causes the muscles to release lactic acid at a rate only seen if you were vigorously working out for prolonged periods, but without the muscle degradation. In these conditions, the brain releases human growth hormone and nerve growth factor into the body at an increased rate of 300%. This allows for decreased systemic inflammation, rapid recovery, repair, and hormonal balancing. Studies on athletes have shown a 130% increase in sex hormone production after just 6 weeks of use. Oxygen delivery to the extremities and the brain is dramatically increased 400% after just 1 session, and when the brain is more oxygenated you will think more clearly and see a huge uptick in energy. Exercising in this fashion for 21 minutes is akin to exercising for a week at high altitude (10,000 ft) in terms of both improving muscle building capacity and prolonging aerobic endurance.

PEMF (Pulsed Electro-Magnetic Field)

The Pulsed Electro Magnetic Field therapy is a bed full of 96 electromagnets that one would lay on or sit in that pulses at the same magnetic frequency as the earth (7.8hz). This allows for the amplification of ATP activity, which translates into a dramatic increase in cellular activity and an exchange of electrons between cells which creates a beneficial and perceptible energy field within the body. This increase in energy improves oxygenation greatly as cells move freely and at an increased amplitude. Being more hydrated at a cellular level will decrease inflammation, promote cellular health, promote healing, decrease pain, increase energy, and increase the flow of oxygen throughout the body… The benefits are endless! This therapy can be beneficial for the following conditions:

ARTHRITIS + JOINT PAIN | DEMENTIA + ALZHEIMER’S | HEADACHES + MIGRAINES | INCISION + WOUND TREATENT | INJURIES | LATENT INFECTIONS | PERIPHERAL NEUROPATHY | REYNAUD’S SYNDROME | SLEEP DISORDERS + FATIGUE | SORE MUSCLES | TINNITUS
